Singapore Announces $701 Citizen Support Grant for August 2025

Singapore’s Ministry of Finance will issue a one-off Citizen Support Grant of $701 to be issued in August 2025. This move comes to continue support for Singaporeans during the ongoing inflation crisis. This package aims to assist households bearing the brunt of inflation while also fostering a consumption-based economy in crucial areas.

Streamlined Criteria for Broader Outreach

With the introduction of the August 2025 Citizen Support Grant, the eligibility criteria have also been simplified to be more inclusive so that the grant can be availed by more Singaporeans. All Singaporean citizens 21 years and above and who earn less than $100,000 annually will automatically qualify for the complete amount without going through the application process.

Those who earn between 100,000and120,000 annually will receive a starting benefit of $350 that will be paid to them on a staggered basis. The final figure will be based on their Assessable Income as stated in the last tax assessment. This proportional approach to aid allocation ensures that the support given is appropriate based on the level of need.

Methods of Payment and Timelines

The Ministry has put in place a systematic schedule for fund disbursement to facilitate the smooth delivery of funds to the eligible recipients. Starting from August 5, 2025, the grant will be deposited into the recipients’ bank accounts which are linked to the PayNow-NRIC. Those who do not have a PayNow-NRIC linkage will be paid through GovCash or bank transfer by August 15, 2025.

Process of Notification

As soon as the payment is processed, eligible citizens will be notified via SMS by “SG-Grant.” Recipients will be provided the payment details which includes the amount received and the crediting bank account. Recipients should verify the SMS sender ID to ensure that payment details are received from official channels to avoid falling victim to potential scams.

Impact and the Purpose

As part of the grant, Singapore’s simulative inflationary economic resilience package, is given to aid local spending. This grant is given to offset inflationary pressures. Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said that the grant is aimed at essential household expenses and educational costs which usually increase in the third quarter of the year.

“As families get ready to spend on education and are burdened with increased utility bills, this aid comes at a critical juncture,” stated Wong during the announcement. “The amount of $701 has been calculated to assist effectively and at the same time not be a burden to the finances of the government.”

Additional Support Measures

The grant given in August adds to the existing programs of assistance and also includes GST vouchers and the U-Save rebates. Households with elderly dependents or children aged under 21 would qualify for additional graded assistance through the various support programs.
